Pre-Homework to First Class

Task 1: Posting Three Images

a: your best piece of creative work before coming to the course, think laterally if you have no done "conventional" art of design work

I had recently saw a post of the new Marc Jacobs Fall Fashion Show 2016, with a surprising guest on the runway Lady Gaga, who made a few appearances down the glossy white floorboards against the blank white canvas as its backdrop.

With the distinct ping of the bells at rhythmic intervals and the impeding shadows of the model's figures disturbing the dynamics, the introduction of Marc Jacobs' designs were being established.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the convoluting sight with mixtures of gothic black liner and lipstick, foot-high platforms and crocheted cloths, this was very reminiscent of the Gothic and the Victorian Era with futuristic touches through metallic sheen on certain dresses. Using elements from the past intertwined with the trends of today and the may-so future, Marc Jacobs has successfully created clothing that seemed familiar and new.

Using the above images as inspiration, I have created my own interpretation of Marc Jacobs' Design, though it is more applicable to current casual wear for the Australian weather and its streets.

b: an image of a great piece of architecture

Japanese Culture has always interested me when I was a young, but I had just recently discovered Japanese Architecture through my completion of BENV1080 -Enabling Skills and ARCH1121- Architectural History and Theory 1 last year. I was able to immersed myself with the works of Ando Tadao and Toyo Ito, through their respective works; Church of Light and Sendai Mediatheque. With all these influences, this led me into finding one of Japanese most recent architecture by OgataYoshiki+SALT+IkawaAtsushi+Wataselkuma, the Steinway & Sons Showroom.
The aim of this space was to create an area where the respective clients were able to feel and experience the craftsmanship, philosophy and history behind each instrument. Clients will feel attached to everything about Steinway in this showroom, beyond the concepts of "objects".

A sample of the architect's representation in showcasing Steinway's work and history is portrayed through the StringScreen room. The use of the stainless wires on the facade mimics the piano wires and highlights the wire's tensile properties which is not clearly seen with the human eye. The wires on the facade emphasises the tranquil nature which Steinway's instruments can provide, especially through its seemed trembling motions from the physical decor of the StringScreen space. Its correlation in metaphorically creating music conveys the notion in how elegance and precision play dual components in the creation of Steinway's instruments, striking a chord in their respective clients' mind which may leads to reminiscence or memories holding strong importance.

c) an original photograph of something beautiful

I have a strong personal interest in experiencing a variety of food from different cultures, as every culture has a different way in interacting with the human palette, through the variety of spices or seasoning respective to each cuisine. Not only do I allow myself to experience different types of food, I also tend to try out fusion foods or people's interpretation of a certain dish with their own personal element or touch to it.

The picture shown below is a fusion dish, combining Western-style cooking methods in order to develop the one of Japanese's known dishes, soba. I increased the contrast and saturation settings for this image, in order to elevate the differing colours and elements played in this dish. The rustic homestyle vibes of the dish are further emphasised through the placement of the dish on the raw wooden table with the mixture of various elements randomly placed throughout the soba noodles (such as the spring onions and chilli peppers).
